Happy Thanksgiving!!

Hello Everyone and Happy Thanksgiving!!

I am so thankful for my husband who makes me proud of the man and Army Officer that he is. He is romantic, supportive, giving, and thoughtful. He makes me a better person, always makes me laugh, loves me and our fur baby Holly unconditionally. He always encourages me to excel at all of my crafts and this year I have been very busy with testing patterns, sewing things for him, Holly, family and friends. I am also knitting him a sweater (my first) and a cabled cape for myself (my first).  He has been very busy too with excelling at his guitar and bass and being an amazing singer/songwriter. Did I mention he can paint too??!!

Things will be a little bit different over here in Germany. I will be watching the parade at 3:00 pm (Germany time) at 9:00 am (EST). We won't be with family and friends back home. We won't be spending it together either. He is currently TDY (Temporary Duty) in another country and won't be back until after Thanksgiving. It will be difficult, but, Holly and I will make the best of it.

First Santa float in the Macy's Parade, 1924.
I want to wish all of our troops serving our Country and their families a very Happy Thanksgiving. Thank you for keeping Americans and our country safe.

This picture below says it all and I know all my other HH6's (Household 6's = Army Wife) knows this feeling. Please remember all the Soldiers and Military Families this holiday season.Thank you for standing by your Soldiers side and support what they do. Please keep them in your thoughts every day.

I am thankful for my family and friends back home who have been so supportive about this assignment overseas. You have been so supportive and our rocks when we needed it...especially when we miss back home.

Also, thank you to all my blogging friends out there, old and new, who have been supportive since I started blogging 5 years ago this past October. You have all been so kind with your encouraging words, funny comments and making me a better blogger.I have really enjoyed reading your blogs, learning from and getting to know you.

Happy Thanksgiving and Happy Hannukah!!

Hello Everyone,

Happy Thanksgiving!!!

I am so thankful for my husband who makes me proud of the man and Army Officer that he is. He is romantic, supportive, giving, and thoughtful. He makes me a better person, always makes me laugh and loves me and our fur baby Holly unconditionally. He has been so supportive of me getting my Seamstress Certification to now getting my BS in Fashion and Retail Management. He always encourages me to excel at all my craft's and this year I have been very busy with testing patterns and sewing things for him, Holly, our family and friends. He is still enjoying his assignment up in Canada. We are especially thankful for our beautiful forever home that we purchased in the spring. It has been a long dream come true for us and we are forever grateful.

I am thankful for my Mom who has taught me so much about being the woman I am today about life, love and happiness. You always told me to wait for the right man to come along and I love how you and my family love him so. You taught me how to be a good wife, daughter, sibling and friend. Thank you for being in my life! E, I am also very thankful to have such a wonderful sister. You are an amazing sister, sister-in-law, best friend, wife, mother and fur baby mama and aunt. To our wonderful brother-in-law E, we are thankful for you being part of our family and being a wonderful husband, father and brother-in-law. I am thankful for our nephews G and M...both a gift, which make us laugh and keep us on our toes. Thank you for being the sweet, loving boys that you are and always putting smiles on our faces. We love you both very much and miss you dearly.

I am thankful that my in-laws and my stepson will be celebrating Thanksgiving with us this year. We are so glad that you will be celebrating the holiday in our home this year.

I want to thank Sue for being such an amazing sewing instructor. You have taught me so much and I am thankful. You are such a wonderful friend. I hope this wonderful gift you have given me will be passed on to the students that I will eventually teach and getting my sister inspired to learn this beautiful craft as well.

I also wish all of our troops serving our Country and their families a very Happy Thanksgiving. Thank you for keeping Americans and our country safe. Thank you to the Military families who stand by their side and support what they do. Please keep them in your thoughts every day.

Also, thank you to all my blogging friends out there, old and new, who have been supportive since I started blogging 4 years ago this past October. Happy Hanukkah!!

Hanukkah is known as The Festival of Lights and is an eight-day Jewish holiday commemorating the re-dedication of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem following the Jewish victory over the Syrian-Greeks in 165 B.C. Olive oil was needed for the menorah in the Temple, which was required to burn throughout the night every night. The story goes that there was only enough oil to burn for one day, yet it burned for eight days, the time needed to prepare a fresh supply of oil for the menorah. An eight day festival was declared to commemorate this miracle.

It just happens to fall on Thanksgiving this year.

There is a custom of eating foods fried in olive oil to commemorate the miracle of a small flask of oil keeping the flame in the Temple lit for eight days. Traditional foods include potato pancakes, known as latkes and jam-filled doughnuts, called sufganiyot. Other Hanukkah traditions are Hanukkah gelt (chocolate money) and the dreidel game.  Dreidels are four-sided spinning tops that children play with and each side is imprinted with a Hebrew letter.

My Grandmother passed away 35 years ago today. I think about her every single day and miss her so very much.

I know we will and we are really looking forward to it. I will be missing my family and friends back in New York and will be wishing that we could be spending today with them. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone who has faced hardship because of Hurricane Sandy. We are thankful for your strength and courage. Many, many thanks to all the first responders and volunteers. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers...not only today, but everyday.

A Thanksgiving Centerpiece for my Mom

Hello Everyone,

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving with family and friends. We had a wonderful day filled with cooking, eating, watching football and relaxing.

Today, I put a centerpiece together for my Mom. She found the galvanized bucket, I added some of the sprays I already had and I also picked up some new ones this year. I also hot glued this beautiful ribbon I picked up onto the bucket.

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!!

All my best,

Getting ready for a special visitor

This week we are going to be busy little beavers around here. My Mom is coming in for a week long visit this coming Saturday and we are so excited. Of course I have a ton of things to do while E is at work...cleaning, laundry, etc. Then we will be doing our Thanksgiving dinner shopping or we just might wait and take Mom to the Commissary here on post.

We cannot wait to have her here for Thanksgiving. E is so pumped up, they both get along so well and he has the cutest name for her...he calls her "Little Momma." Although there is not much to do here, she is very excited to do some crafting and sewing. Most of all we are looking forward to spending some quality time together. We will also take her around post, the National Infantry Museum, and to Columbus. She loves to shop...so that will be a no brainer.

I also have to finish my Christmas cards this week and I will finally post a picture of it. I have been having a little bit of trouble with them and with me being a perfectionist that doesn't make life any easier. LOL I am using my Cricut Expression and  the Joys of the Season cartridge. Everything I cut out came out great except for one of the phrases I was trying to cut out. I will explain more when I post the card.

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend!!

Alisha
